Key West

The Florida Keys, a large chain of coral reef illustrates the region’s second natural wonder in the state’s south. The Overseas Highway connects the Keys to the mainland. The Keys are said to be more a sense of life than a place, and are especially popular among fishers, divers and snorkelers. Visiting Florida Keys requires a stay for several days in order to enjoy the casual, tropical sense of life a bit. Key West is the most southern part of the U.S. mainland and Florida’s wealthiest city. The following are just a few tourist attractions:

Key West is the most southern part of the U.S. mainland and Florida’s wealthiest city. The following are just a few tourist attractions:

Hemingway Home – This city’s probably most heralded attraction. Hemingway lived here from 1931 to 1940 and wrote several of his works here, too.

Lighthouse Museum – The city’s lighthouse was built in 1848. It is the largest attraction. The 88-storey way up is waiting to reward you with a magnificent panoramic view. It is also possible to look through the old lens, through which the light gleamed 40 km across the sea.

Bahama Village – This historic neighborhood is bounded on the west by Fort, Virginia, Petronia and Whitehead Street. Life takes place on the streets. Domino is played and chickens are running free – a Caribbean enclave in North America. Typical shotgun houses of Cuban cigarette workers can be lionized. East Martello Museum and Gallery. The East Martello tower has never been completed but a museum can be visited there, offering a good overview of Key West’s colorful past.

Miami

Visiting Miami is a must when staying in Florida (approx. 3-hours drive away from Cape Coral). Miami is also called “Magic City” because this tiny trading post has developed to a roughly 5000 km² large city with about two million inhabitants in the course of a century. Visitors love Miami - especially for South Beach, the beaches and the influence from Latin America and the Caribbean which is everywhere perceptible.

The Ocean Drive, the strolling promenade along South Beach is world-famous for celebs. The Ocean Drive is bordered by the most beautiful of about 800 restored buildings of the art-deco neighborhood. Preferably, it is possible to enjoy the atmosphere of the Ocean Drive in a pub or a café along the waterfront. Do be careful with cocktail prices!
The Beach – a majority of the sand was imported to Miami Beach two years ago. Sand is backfilled regularly in order to counter coastal erosion.

Miami has a wide range of tourist attractions. The following are just few of them:
Jewish Museum of Florida, The Wolfsonian Museum – Florida International Museum, Holocaust Memorial, Bass Museum of Art.

Lovely parts of Miami: Downtown and Little Havana, Coral Gables as well as Coconut Grove and Vizcaya.
